Greetings:

As Chief of the Fire, I just wanted to be sure I was being quoted
correctly regarding the email below.

When Paul Eggleston and I met, Paul asked me if I would approve having
an Ordeal weekend at a camp in Sullivan County. My response was that
"my' preference is that our Ordeal work weekends would benefit one of
own camps - Nooteeming or Bullowa, but if the Lodge Officers were in
agreement, that it would benefit the boys and troops in Sullivan and
Pike Counties, I would approve of the decision to hold an Ordeal weekend
at any one of the camps in his area. Paul mentioned he had a contact
with Forestburg at which point I said: Forestburg would be fine with me
but before you talk to Forestburg, you need to call Izak first and get
his and the Lodge's approval.

I hope this clears up some confusion at least from my end.

As far as other camps are concerned, once you go out-of-council, you are
providing service to another council's camping facility. I would prefer
that if the Lodge Officers decide to go to an out-of-council camp for an
ordeal weekend that you share our talents and services with a variety of
other camps. We do have 24 different camps that our troops use for
summer camp with Camp Ranachqua representing about 35% of our total
attendance.

Yours in Scouting,

Stephen Gray

Scout Executive

    Hi to all;

On Monday, Mr. Eagleston had a meeting with Mr. Gray, our Scout
Executive. At that meeting, Mr. Eagleston expressed his concern that OA
members have to travel such long distances to do their Ordeals . In
response
Mr. Gray gave us permission to use Forestburg as an alternate ordeal
location. At a very similar meeting, that I had about 6 months ago, Mr.
Gray
felt we should only be serving our own camps.
While I have always been concerned that the Delaware Chapter has to
travel such great lengths to be part of the Lodge, I'm bewildered by the
choice of Forestburg. It is already being served by Na Tsi Hi Lodge of
the
Monmouth Council. In Fact they will be clearing trails the same weekend
as
our HHF. Also, only about 6 Troops from the HVC that go there.
Meanwhile Camp Ranachqua has no Lodge serving it. By far, most of
it's
staff comes from the HVC. At present, based on the TMR website, there
are 44
bookings for 2009, 33 of them are from the HVC, many are from Delaware
chapter and ?Heritage., these numbers are typical and based on early
registrations, the numbers will only increase as the season goes on..By
far,
the HVC's most well attended Camp is Ranachqua, yet Forestburg is being
chosen as an alternate camp for service?
To me, it just doesn't make any sense. We should be serving a SCOUT
CAMP
that we use, and not being served by another Lodge.
I've been told by some that we should move on and accept the
decision. I
find this troubling, the O.A. Is steeped in tradition, it is that
tradition
that draws so many older members to hang out at many of our weekends.
The
ties too traditions are vital, it is that tradition that keeps so many
members to keep track of our history, and the the three Lodges that
merged
to form our own.
I urge all to look at the facts. We need to have a Key 3, on the
subject. I also urge that we talk to the unit leaders who go to BOTH
camps
before we make a decision. It's clear that my feelings run deep on this
subject, and I hope all will consider, these points before we agree to
anything.

    Yours In W.W.W.
